Avery Associates started as a London based company in 1978, serving the city and the Greater London area. Since then, we have expanded the range of services we provide, and operate nationwide. Our ethos from the very beginning was to provide professional service and value for money, and as we have grown, we have retained that commitment. The majority of our work comes through recommendation, and through our expanding and loyal customer base. We now have a network of accredited surveyors and valuers, all of whom are highly experienced in their relevant fields, having worked in some of the major International London auction houses for many years.
Jeffrey Avery – Managing Director – Senior Administrator – Fine Art Valuer
Managing Director and founder of Avery Associates, with over 35 years of experience. Jeffrey oversees the development of the business. He has wide ranging experience in fine art, furniture, collectables and has a particular interest in 20th century design. Jeffrey carries out the majority of valuations for Inheritance Tax purposes and personally overseas all work carried out by the company. Further to this he has a good understanding of all matters relating to probate
David Greatwood – MRICS Fine Art Valuer
David Greatwood is a MRICS qualified fine art valuer with over 25 years experience in the Fine Art Auctioneering business. He has worked as a senior valuer both in London and for a number of leading provincial auctioneers and has a wealth of knowledge and experience in all aspects of the antique market. He regularly conducts valuations for probate on behalf of Executors and Solicitors, in accordance with section 160 of the Inheritance Tax Act 1984, as well as valuations for Insurance of home contents for Insurance companies, brokers and private clients. He also acts as a Fine Art Consultant for Independent Television (ITV). His key area of expertise and interest is in furniture, silver, pictures, books, clocks and 20th century decorative arts, but is also able to advise in specialist areas such as coins, stamps, and Oriental works of art via a team of specialist consultants
Stuart Billington – Stamp Specialist & Consultant
Stuart has over 35 years experience in the Philatelic business and his unique specialist knowledge enables him to give the best advice on all aspects relating to stamps and postal history.
He was Head of the stamp department of Phillips Auctioneers (later Bonhams) between 1999 and 2005, and conducts current market value, probate and Insurance valuations on collections throughout the UK.
His main area of interest is Commonwealth, China and Egypt.
Allan Darwell – Art & Painting Consultant
Allan has over 45 years of experience in the picture market. He started his career in London working for a leading Gallery in St James’s before moving to a leading regional Gallery in Sheffield where he worked for 15 years. Since then he has held senior painting specialist roles for Phillips, Bonhams and several high profile provincial saleroom. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience in oils, watercolors and antiquarian prints.
Andrew Litherland – Coin Medal & Scripophily Consultant
Andrew has over 40 years experience as a dealer and auctioneer. He started work at Spink in 1975, where he worked for 20 years eventually becoming head of department. Later he moved to Phillips Auctioneers in Bond street to run Glendinings (their Coin and Medal division) where he extended his knowledge to banknotes, coins, militaria and scripophily.
In 2004 he moved to Bloomsbury Book Auctions to set up their collectors department. He is now an independent consultant and carries out Insurance, Probate and current market valuations.
Clifford Lansberry – Fine Art Consultant
Clifford is a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), undertaking valuation work for insurance, probate, and current market value purposes, with a particular interest in fine art.
Brian Kennedy – General Valuer
Brian has over 25 years of accumulated experience in the antique trade and has a comprehensive all round knowledge of antiques, modern furniture, collectables, art, modern design and in particular the arts and crafts period. This all round expertise makes him one of most experienced and the best general valuer in our team. Brian carries out valuations for inheritance tax purposes on a regular basis
Giles Levett – Book Specialist
Giles Levett BA(Hons), M.Sc. PGCE and PBFA has over 20 years experience with antiquarian books, manuscripts, maps and autographs. He is a valuer and consultant for a number of london auction houses, he also carries out valuations for insurance purposes and inheritance tax calculations. Giles has a passion and in depth knowledge of modern 1st editions.
Michael Payne – Business Development and Administration Manager
Michael Payne has a joint honours degree in Law and Psychology and is responsible for creating systems to ensure that Jeffrey Avery and Associates runs efficiently, complies with all green and other legislation, and for forging business relationships.
Pam Mulinda – PA & Office Manager
Pam is office manager, and has worked for Avery Associates since its foundation, and is PA to Jeffrey Avery. She has helped to build all aspects of the business, introducing and implementing systems to ensure maximum efficiency.
