Classic Car Valuation
Probate Valuation Of Classic Veteran Vintage Cars Boats And Motorcycles
Value a car for probate – Avery Associates can provide accurate, independent and professional valuations of veteran, vintage and classic cars, classic motorcycles and classic commercial vehicles for insurance, finance, legal reasons, acquisition and sale, regardless of value. Whether it’s an old car left in a garage, or a lovingly restored, sought after and rare Rolls Royce, we can value it, both for insurance or for probate purposes.
The valuation of classic cars is a complex process, depending on many factors, including rarity, mechanical condition, and even the colour. Our valuations are accurate and based on catalogued prices, past auction results and over 100 years of experience shared between our highly qualified car valuers. Modern vehicles are valued in a slightly different way and values are calculated based upon recent catalogued prices, online valuation sources, and recent prices achieved at auction.
We provide a nationwide service and can easily handle single vehicles, or an entire collection, as required, and in addition to valuing classic cars, we can also value motorcycles and boats.
Our independent valuations are readily accepted by official bodies, such as HMRC for Probate, and the Police, as well as insurance companies.

We have an almost new car, can you value it for probate and how do you arrive at a figure ?
Valuing a nearly new car is fairly straightforward and the value is based upon condition, mileage, model and recent sale prices achieved through auction or online sources and sale results
Is the probate value of a vehicle the same as the value of a car from a dealer ?
No, a dealer will be asking a full retail price, but our probate value will be closer to that of a private sale achieved by a willing buyer and seller
Why is there a difference in the value of a modern car and a classic car ?
Classic cars are more difficult to value because of their rarity. Value is very dependant of condition, mileage and provenance. Our specialist valuers have decades of experience in the classic car trade
What is the difference between veteran, classic and vintage cars ?
The difference has become rather blurred over the years but essentially, Veteran cars are vehicles manufactured before the First World War, Vintage cars will have been built before 1930. A Classic car is far less well defined. One person’s classic is another person’s “old heap!”
Some “modern” cars deemed to be classic and then it would be possible to enter that vehicle into a Classic Car Auction.
Can you sell our classic car for a good price ?
All our valuers are there to judge what they feel the car could achieve at auction. If you wish, they would be happy for you to enter the vehicle into one of their auctions, and hopefully realise (or exceed) the estimated value of that car, come auction day.
We have a veteran that we don’t require, can you help us sell it ?
Our valuers work for a Classic Car Auction House and would be happy to discuss bringing your car to market.
We have a valuable collection of rare, vintage and classic cars, can you sell them on behalf of the executors for a good price ?
our valuers work for a Classic Car Auction House and would be happy to discuss bringing your cars to market.
How much will I be charged to enter my car into a Classic Car Auction?
There would be an entry fee to pay (normally we would pass across the charge incurred for valuing the vehicle for probate, which would cover the cost of the entry fee) and then there is a 5% + VAT premium to pay, should the vehicle be successfully auctioned
Can a probate valuation be carried out without a visit to view the vehicle?
In many cases a valuation can be achieved without the need to see the vehicle “in the flesh.” Just send us some photographs and as much information about the history of the vehicle and we can work out the value from there…
