Clearance Overview
We were requested to clear all the contents of a 4th-floor flat not far from Wentworth St, home of the famous Petticoat Lane market. The client also asked us to drain down the central heating, isolate the electrics, and change the locks, as the flat was likely to be empty for some time.
Clearance Requirements
As with all central London House Clearances, parking was a problem. It proved to be impossible to deal with Tower Hamlets Borough Council and arrange an exemption, but fortunately, on the day, we were able to find a pay and display space near the address. This was a difficult clearance because the flat was in a converted attic, and the lift only went to the 4th floor.
Disposal of Contents
The contents consisted of mainly modern furniture, and we were able to work with local charities to ensure that the goods were re-used. In this case nothing was recycled or disposed of. It is always our policy to re-use whenever we can, as this is even more environmentally friendly than recycling.

The client viewed the property after the flat clearance and declared himself to be “entirely satisfied” with the work. He has already recommended our services to the estate agent where he works. He particularly liked the fact that we were able to handle all aspects of the clearance, including the lock changing and draining of the central heating. He was also very pleased to note how much care we took not to damage the communal areas of the building, and the fact that we lined the lift with protective materials to prevent damage.
Additional Information
The previous resident of the flat had evidently visited Zimbabwe, and we found a stash of notes, worth several million Zimbabwe dollars. On investigation, the total value was less than £5.00!
