Clearance Overview
We were requested to completely clear the contents of a 5 bedroom detached house with garage in Havelock Rd Croydon Surrey. The owner, who lived abroad, wanted to sell the property quickly. He had already removed items of value, but required us to transport some of the contents to a secure storage facility, and clear the rest. He also asked us to leave the curtains, and install some timer switches to switch on lamps at variable times of day, so as to make the property look occupied. The garage and garden furniture was also to be cleared. We usually value house contents for probate prior to carrying out a property clearance, but in this case a probate valuation was not required.
Clearance Requirements
We arrived at the job at 5 a.m. Parking is very difficult in Croydon, but we were able to park in the driveway, so this was not a problem. As this was a large property we brought two vans, and a crew of 8. One van was to be filled with the items the client wished to keep, and the other for the residual contents clearance. We worked through the day, removing all kinds of furniture, computers, TV sets, printers, cupboards, chests of drawers, tables, chairs, and similar items. Finally, we removed tools, boxes and other items from the garage, and garden furniture and a shed from the garden.
Disposal of Contents
Some of the contents were transported to secure storage, as requested by the client, and the rest, mostly furniture, was either given to charitable organizations or sold through our retail division, and we offset the proceeds against the cost of the clearance. A large amount of paper was re-cycled. Almost nothing went to landfill, which helped us to reach our target of only 5% on average of the proceeds of any clearance going to landfill.

The client said that this was a very good job. The estate agent who inspected the property reported to Mr Ali that the property was ready for viewing by prospective purchasers.
Additional Information
Amongst the possessions, we found a purse containing £500 in Saudi Riyals, and a driving licence belonging to Mrs Ali. She stated that she had mislaid the purse a month before, and was very grateful for its return.
