Clearance Overview
We were called by the owner of large house in Beechnut Close, Wokingham RG41, who had inherited the property from a distant relative. He had already started to clear the property himself and removed any items of value and a few of the smaller items, but as the project was beyond his capabilities he asked us to clear the large amount of general household goods remaining. Eventually he wanted to sell the property, but for a few months it was going to remain unoccupied. For that reason he asked us to drain down the central heating and prepare the property for a period vacancy. He was a little wary about the garden furniture and ornaments as the property may look unoccupied and become a more tempting proposition for thieves. So we were asked to remove all of the items and lock them inside a nearby garage.
Clearance Requirements
We arrived at 7am on the morning and commenced the house clearance by removing the larger items of furniture. There were three double beds to remove from the bedrooms, and many of the other items of furniture were so heavy it required two of our strongest men to remove them, so he did well to call us. We removed all white goods from the kitchen, then following the complete clearance of all household contents we disconnected the washing machine (which is a service that we provide at no extra charge). We tidied up the garden, and cut back the overgrown hedges. Following this we removed all garden rubbish and debris. We also arranged for the gas cooker to be disconnected by a registered Gas Safe Engineer and drained down the central heating before we finished for the day.
Disposal of Contents
The garden waste was placed in compost bins so that we did not have to send it to landfill, and some of it was left in the green waste section at the local council’s recycling centre. The majority of the furniture was in good condition, including two bookshelves and a chest of draws, and we donated these to a local shelter for the homeless. Any smaller items that could not be reused were recycled, and in the end almost nothing went to landfill.
Client Comments
The client was very pleased with how the clearance went and is now planning to hire some decorators to spruce up the property. His aim is to sell it after six months.
