Clearance Requirements
We were called out to clear a large detached house that was owned by our client. It was located on The Grove in West Wickham, which is a peaceful neighbourhood, and our client was in the process of selling a house that he had inherited from his father. Having gone through the house and removed all of the personal possessions that he wanted to keep, he now found that there were lots of items of heavy furniture that required removing, as well as other general household contents. He also informed us that there were some antique items that he did not want, and said that he would like us to try and sell them if possible so that we could offset the sales against the cost of the clearance.
Clearance Overview
After carrying out a quick appraisal of the house, we estimated that we would finish the job within the day, probably before 5.00pm. The first thing that we did was remove the antique objects that the client had suggested we could sell. These included a fine china tea set, a crystal sculpture of a person and a mahogany chest of draws, all of which we loaded into the van. We then removed the larger items of furniture from the living room, kitchen and bedrooms. These consisted of chairs, sofas, tables, wardrobes and beds, as well as the fridge, freezer and washing machine from the kitchen. We then went through the entire house loading up the smaller goods and effects into boxes to be placed in the vans. The whole process took a number of hours, but we worked carefully despite working quickly. We also removed the carpets and underlay, and after we had cleared everything from the house we gave it a quick clean throughout to leave it looking clean and tidy.
Disposal of Contents
Most of the furniture was still in a very good condition so we did not throw this away but instead donated it to a few charities working in the area. We hate to throw anything away unless absolutely necessary so that we can reduce our environmental impact. We also sold the antiques for a good price, which allowed us to reduce the overall cost of the clearance for our client.
