Clearance Requirements
We were called by our client to arrange the clearance of a large period property on Knight’s Hill in West Norwood, London. He did not want to sell the property, but it would not be occupied for a long time and so he asked us to clear it, give it a light clean and cut off the electricity and water supply. He also asked us to arrange for the gas cooker to be disconnected at the same time.
Clearance Overview
We were able to park our vans with no difficulties because the house had a private driveway, and as soon as we arrived we began to clear the property. It was a very large property, and it was full of furniture and other goods, so we knew that it would be tight finishing it in one day, but that is what we aimed to do. The Gas Safe engineer came around in the morning to disconnect the gas cooker, which is a legal requirement, and after he had done that we removed the cooker along with the other white goods. We then removed all of the furniture from the living room, which included a large chandelier that the client said we could try and sell if we wanted to, so we put that to one side. The bedrooms were filled with lots of personal effects including clothing and books, and we cleared them all during the afternoon. After we had removed absolutely everything from the house we gave it a light clean throughout and then cut off the water supply and the electricity as requested.

We managed to sell the chandelier at auction and it fetched a good price, so we were able to reduce the fee for the clearance, which our client was very pleased about. There were lots of things from the clearance that we were able to donate to charity because they were in a very good condition, so overall it was a very satisfactory house clearance for the team.
