Clearance Requirements
This small terraced house that belonged to our client was located on Tonsley Hill in Wandsworth. Our client called us to explain that he had experienced a problem with a previous tenant who had been a compulsive hoarder, and now he required the entire property emptied and cleaned. We agreed to carry out both tasks, and explained that it would probably take longer than a day to arrange if the size of the collection was considerable.
Clearance Overview
The house was located on a quiet and pleasant street, and on-street parking was available right outside the property. From the outside it looked like a perfectly normal property, but inside the entire space in the living room, kitchen, hallway and bedrooms was filled up with clutter, general effects, rubbish and other items that comprised the collection. We began work immediately. We boxed up all of the smaller items that we came across first, and it proved to be a lengthy job as it always is with hoarding cases. It took us the entire morning just to clear the living room, and most of the afternoon to clear the kitchen. When we had cleared the smaller items, we discovered furniture underneath the piles and removed these items as well. On the second day we began work on the upstairs area, and encountered much of the same. We cleared everything, and by lunchtime we had cleared the entire property. We then cleaned the house throughout using industrial cleaning equipment to ensure that we left it in an exceptional condition.
Disposal of Contents
We always try to reuse whatever we can from our clearances, but in hoarding cases this is not often possible because the furniture and effects are usually in a bad condition. We managed to donate a few items of furniture to a local charity, but the rest of the collection we sent to be recycled, so at least we managed to divert most of it from landfill.
