Clearance Requirements
Our client was a firm of solicitors for this clearance. They were arranging the sale of a three-bedroom house on Forest Road in Walthamstow, and required a full clearance before they could arrange to get it placed on the market. The solicitor who arranged the clearance said that if we found anything of value then they would be happy for us to sell it if we could reduce the cost of the clearance.
Clearance Overview
Parking was available in the street around the corner from the building, so we parked our vans there and then set to work on the clearance bright and early at 7.30am. After a quick appraisal of the property, we saw that there were a few antiques that looked valuable so we separated these first to try and sell them at a later date. The rest of the clearance was fairly straightforward. We removed all of the furniture, effects, paintings, DVDs, books, plates, bowls, utensils and all of the other household effects both large and small from the downstairs area. Once we had cleared downstairs we tackled the bedrooms upstairs. We discovered that one of these bedrooms had been affected quite badly by damp, and most of the effects within the room had been ruined, so we loaded these into the van separately. Once we had finished removing all of the effects, we removed the carpets but left the curtains to give the impression that the property was still occupied. We then cleaned it throughout to leave it in an excellent condition so that it could be placed on the market.
Disposal of Contents
A nearby hostel for homeless people was happy to receive donations of any of the items that were still able to be used. We also managed to sell a few of the antiques that we found, which enabled us to reduce the cost of the clearance. Anything that could not be reused or sold was sent to our recycling centre.
