Clearance Requirements
This three-bedroom flat on Grove End Road in St Johns Wood, NW8, was owned by our client who asked us to carry out a complete clearance right down to the carpets and curtains. He also asked us if we would be able to change the locks at the same time, and we said that we would be happy to arrange this.
Clearance Overview
Parking was available outside the building, but we had to arrange to use a neighbour’s permit in order to park our vans for the day. When we entered the flat it was clear that the job was a large one. Furniture was piled up high in the living room, with chairs stacked up on top of one another and large piles of magazines, books and general household clutter. We started by clearing the living room, which was the most challenging of all the rooms in the flat. We came across a large collection of comics as we cleared the room, and we separated these because we knew that they might be worth reusing rather than discarding. Our team worked very efficiently to remove all of the furniture, and seeing as there were so many items this took a large part of the morning. We also cleared out the kitchen, including the white goods. After clearing out the bedrooms, we took up the carpets and underlay so that nothing remained. During this time, the locksmith arrived to change the locks and we handed the new keys to our client at the end of the day.
Disposal of Contents
We donated the collection of comic books to a charity bookshop nearby, and the manager said that he thought they would sell quickly as they were very popular titles. We also donated some furniture to the same bookshop, and donated a table and chairs to a local home for the elderly, which they were very happy to receive. We recycled nearly everything that we could not find a new home for, and only a very small amount of the contents had to be discarded as waste, making it a very satisfactory clearance.
