Clearance Requirements
We were hired by a firm of solicitors for the clearance of this detached house just off Sanderstead Hill in Sanderstead in London. They were acting as the executors of the estate and winding it up on behalf of the beneficiary, and the entire property had to be cleared. They informed us that there was potentially a lot of personal contents in the form of files and letters, and they asked us to destroy anything that we found that was confidential.
Clearance Overview
We arrived at the property just after 8.00am and met one of the solicitors. He showed us around the property quickly and then we got to work. We placed plywood protection around the front door to avoid causing any damage, and then we began to remove all of the furniture and effects from each room.
One of the rooms had been converted into an office, and it was here that we found most of the letters and other confidential papers. We shredded anything that we found, and all of the waste paper was sent to be recycled.
Three of the bedrooms did not contain much furniture, but one of them had apparently been used as a storage room, and here we found lots of interesting items including an antique chest of draws and a large antique table. We cleared everything from the room and left the property completely empty, then handed the key back to the solicitor when he arrived at the end of the day.
Disposal of Contents
Aside from the confidential paper waste, some other items were sent for recycling to prevent them from going to landfill. We also sold the antique furniture that we found after confirming this with our client, and we were able to offset some of the cost of the clearance as a result.
