Clearance Requirements
Our client for this clearance of a large detached house on Kew Road in Richmond, London, TW9, was an estate agent who was in charge of selling the property. The owner had lived in the property with his wife, but she had sadly passed away and he had decided to move out. There were lots of things that he did not want to keep, so he decided that it was best to arrange a professional house clearance. However, our client made it clear that the owner wanted as many of the possessions to be reused if possible rather than thrown away.
Clearance Overview
We arrived at the house just before 8.00am and parked our vehicles in the driveway. One of the estate agents met us outside and handed us the keys, and we immediately got to work. The first thing that we did was cover the doorway with plywood to protect it from any knocks, and then we got started on the kitchen.
We removed all of the white goods from the kitchen, taking out the fridge, freezer, washing machine and other items. We then removed all of the crockery, plates and bowls from inside the kitchen cabinets.
After this, we moved into the living room. There were lots of ornaments in the living room, and many of these were in a very good condition. We decided that we would like to sell a few of these ornaments, and we asked the estate agents at the end of the day if this would be okay. The estate agent agreed so we separated these items to sell them later on, and which would help to reduce the cost of the clearance for the owner.
Upstairs, there were two large beds, a huge oak wardrobe and a very large collection of books. We removed all the items in the bedrooms, the hallway and the bathroom, and everything had been removed by 5.00pm. Following the clearance, we gave the property a deep clean to leave it in excellent condition, and we handed the keys back to the estate agent at 6.30pm.
Disposal of Contents
We managed to sell a number of the ornaments that we had found in the living room, and we got quite a good price for these so were able to reduce the cost of the clearance for the client. Many of the things we removed were reusable, so rather than throwing these away we donated some to charities and found homes for the others using a selection of websites. Some things were recycled, and in the end only a tiny proportion of the cleared items were disposed of in landfill.
