Clearance Requirements
Our client contacted us to clear her property that had recently been left to her in a will. She wanted to move into the property herself, but it still contained many personal effects and furniture that had belonged to the previous occupant, so there was no room to place her own belongings. She had marked up the items that she wanted to keep, but asked us to remove the remaining contents so that she could move in.
Clearance Overview
When we arrived and started work on the clearance, we began by separating out the items that the client had marked up for keeping. Some of these could remain in the same place, such as one of the beds, but other items we moved out of the way so that we could remove all of the other furniture and effects that had to be cleared.
After we had placed plywood protection up around the front door and in the porch, we began to remove everything from the house starting with the kitchen. Here all of the white goods needed to be removed, but we left the table because the client had marked it up to keep.
We then cleared the living room, hallway, upstairs bathroom and all of the bedrooms. There were a few items that were very heavy, including a wooden chest of draws from one of the bedrooms, and these required a few members of the team to clear. We worked quickly and efficiently, and in the end we were able to complete the clearance ahead of schedule at 4pm.
Disposal of Contents
Of all of the contents that we removed from the house, most could be reused. This was useful because we like to ensure that as many things as possible are reused to improve our environmental credentials. We sent some of these to local charities, and we also donated a large bookshelf to a local home for the elderly. Only a few items could not be reused, and most of these we were able to recycle.
