Clearance Requirements
Our client called us to arrange the clearance of his large detached period property on Moor Park Road in Northwood, London, HA6. It had five bedrooms, two of which had been used as general storage rooms and had become cluttered with general household contents over the years. He was moving abroad permanently and so wanted to clear out everything from the property and leave it in a good condition, so he also asked us to provide a basic clean following the clearance and to change the locks for security reasons.
Clearance Overview
The house had a large private driveway where we were able to park our removal vans, and as soon as we arrived just before 8am we carried out a quick appraisal of the property and then started work on the clearance.
We removed all of the white goods from the kitchen, including the electric cooker, washing machine, fridge and freezer, and we also cleared out all of the cabinets to leave them all empty. We then removed the furniture from the living room, which included a number of chairs and two sofas. There were also lots of attractive ornaments that the owner did not want to keep, so we set these aside to be sold later on to reduce the cost of the clearance for the client.
Three of the bedrooms were quite straightforward to clear, but the other two were filled with clutter so we had to sort our way through these until they were clear. These two rooms took almost as long as the rest of the house combined, and we ended up finishing the clearance at 5pm. We then cleaned the property throughout, and during this time the locksmith arrived to change the locks. We ended up handing the new keys to the client at 6pm.
Disposal of Contents
All of the furniture was in a very good condition, so we decided to sell some of it along with the ornaments that had significant value, and this allowed us to offset the cost of the clearance. All of the other items were donated to charities, and those things that could not be reused were recycled. Only a small proportion of the total items removed were sent to landfill, which is always our aim following any house clearance.
