We were asked to clear this terraced house on Central Road in Morden, London, SM4 by the brother of the owner, who lived overseas. There were a number of personal items that the client wanted to keep, and he asked us to transport these to a nearby storage unit following the clearance. He also asked us to clean the house throughout following the clearance so that it would be in a good condition to put on the market to sell.
The house was located on a quiet street and there was on-street parking available for our vehicles. We met the client at 7am and started by placing plywood protection around the front door and in the porch. The client informed us that there was an elderly couple living next door and asked us to keep this in mind to try to avoid making too much noise during the clearance.
The client had labelled the furniture and personal effects that his brother wanted to keep, so we separated these from the other items to remove. The client stayed at the property during the clearance, and he pointed out a few items that we might want to sell to offset the cost of the clearance, including a large bronze statue and some antique plates.
We cleared the entire property, and once everything had been removed from the interior, one team cleared the items and furniture from the back garden while the other team focused on the cleaning. The kitchen and bathroom needed special attention and we spent a few hours making sure that the whole house was cleaned to a very high standard before finishing the job.
Disposal of Contents
We took the personal furniture and effects to the storage unit as arranged, and we removed the items that we had separated to be sold, which we later managed to sell at auction and this saved some money on the cost of the clearance for the client. We also managed to reuse most of the contents as they were all in a very good condition, and most of the furniture was donated to two local charity shops. The majority of the remaining items were recycled, and the rest were sent to landfill.
Our client was very pleased with the quick progress we made, and he was very grateful that we could clean the property at the same time as carrying out the clearance as this saved him a lot of time so that he could sell the property sooner.
