Clearance Requirements
This large detached house was located just off The Ridgeway in Mill Hill in London. The owners had moved out a few months previously, and were now in the process of preparing the property to be sold. A few weeks earlier thieves had broken into the unoccupied property and stolen some belongings, so they wanted us to arrange for new locks to be fitted on all of the doors at the same time as we carried out the clearance. There were also some items of garden furniture in the back garden to remove.
Clearance Overview
The house had a driveway so we had no difficulty parking our vehicles. We met the owner outside the property and then began work on the clearance following a quick appraisal of the property.
There was a very large table in the living room, as well as a large sofa, but apart from this there were few large items of furniture to remove, so by our standards it was a fairly basic clearance. Our team worked quickly and efficiently to remove everything in the property, and the owner had informed us that he did not want to keep anything so we could dispose of it how we saw fit.
While one team worked inside the property, two members of the team worked in the garden removing a table, benches, an old lawnmower and other old items of machinery that had been left behind.
The locksmith arrived just after midday and he changed all of the locks on the doors as we carried out the clearance. We then handed the new keys to the owner when he arrived at the end of the day.
Disposal of Contents
We found a number of items of furniture that were suitable for reusing, including a sofa, chairs, table and two chests of draws amongst other things. We sent these to a nearby charity shop, which was very grateful for the donation, and this prevented them from going to landfill. Anything that could not be reused was taken to our recycling centre, and if it could not be recycled then it was sent to landfill, but this was only a very tiny proportion of the total contents that we removed.
