CLEARANCE DATE: 11th September 2012
PROPERTY LOCATION: Highgate Road, Kentish Town, London, NW5
CLEARANCE TYPE: Full flat clearance
PROPERTY TYPE: 4-bedroom flat
Clearance Requirements
Our client for this clearance was a firm of solicitors acting as executors of the will for the property owner. The property was a very large flat on the ground floor of an attractive period building. It had not been lived in for a few years and had fallen into disrepair, with many of the rooms filled up with general household clutter and furniture that had to be removed. The owner was keen to sell the property, so clearing it was the first stage in the process before he could decorate it. There was also a table and chest of draws that the owner wanted to keep, and we agreed to transfer these to an address in Hounslow.
Clearance Overview
There was no parking available at the front of the property because it was on a very busy street, so we had to park around the back. A representative from the firm of solicitors met us at 8am, and we carried out a quick appraisal of the job, then started to clear the property soon after.
Many of the rooms were filled with general clutter and objects ranging from small items like books and clothes to larger items of furniture such as beds and shelving units. We removed everything throughout the course of the morning and afternoon, taking constant care to be respectful of the residents of the neighbouring flats.
Once we had removed everything from the flat we also removed the carpets and underlay, along with the curtains. We then gave the property a quick clean throughout to leave it in a good condition, and transferred the table and the chest of draws to the other address.
Disposal of Contents
Apart from the chest of draws and the table that the owner wanted to keep, we tried our best to find new homes for the other items. Some of these were in a good condition, such as the large collection of books, so we managed to donate these to a local charity book shop. We also donated a few other items such as the clothes, chairs and DVD player. We could not reuse everything, and the majority of the remaining items were sent to our recycling centre for processing so that the amount of waste was reduced significantly, which is always our policy.
Client Comments
The client in this case was a firm of local solicitors, who were acting as executors, winding up the estate on behalf of the beneficiary, the son of the house owner. One of the partners inspected the property and was particularly impressed with the “excellent job” we had done with the garden.
