Clearance Requirements
As well as house clearances, we are often called out to clear shops and other commercial premises. This was the case when our client for this job called us up. His commercial property was located on Hatton Garden in Holborn, London, which is a busy street. He was planning to open his own shop in the property, but first he needed to clear out all of the shelving units, cabinets, boxes and clutter that remained from the previous occupant. Time was of the essence because he wanted to open for business within a fortnight, so we planned to arrive within a few days.
Clearance Overview
Parking outside the shop on Hatton Garden was for permit holders only so we first had to apply to Camden Council for a permit. Once this was granted, we arrived early in the morning and began to clear out the interior of the shop immediately.
This was by our standards quite a simple clearance, but there were a lot of shelving units and old cabinets to remove and many of these required at least two people to lift. During the clearance it became clear that there were signs of a rodent infestation, and we found the source of this in the afternoon in one of the offices at the back of the shop and we dealt with this accordingly.
We finished clearing the last shelving unit from the shop by mid-afternoon and the owner confirmed that he was happy with the standard of the job.
Disposal of Contents
Fortunately, many of the shelves and units that we found were still in a good condition, so we made sure that we found new homes for these rather than throwing them away. We did this through connections that we already had as well as some internet sites. During the clearance, everything was loaded into our closed unmarked van for privacy purposes, and only a few items were recycled so there was very little waste from the clearance.
