House Clearance in Highbury: Case Study 1

As many of our clients have never dealt with probate or used a house clearance company before, we found that it was helpful to outline a previous house clearance in Highbury we carried out recently. This gives new clients some understanding of the clearance process and pricing. If you have any probate requirements or looking to have a house clearance in Highbury or surrounding areas then for free advice without obligation, you can call our valuers London Office on 0208 640 0044.

We also carry out property valuation for probate and house contents valuation for probate purposes in the Highbury area.

CLEARANCE DATE: 2nd October 2012

PROPERTY LOCATION: Highbury Grove, Highbury, London, N5

CLEARANCE TYPE: Full flat clearance

PROPERTY TYPE: 4-bedroom flat

Clearance Requirements

Our client asked us to clear this four-bedroom property on Highbury Grove in Highbury, N5, which belonged to his father who had until recently lived in the house. However, following the death of his wife, he had moved out and the family now wanted to put the house on the market.

Many of the personal items had been cleared, but we were asked to keep an eye out for anything that may have been important, such as photo albums or journals that had been forgotten.

There was also a gas cooker that needed to be disconnected and removed, and all of the white goods from the kitchen were to be removed. There was also a large room upstairs that was filled with personal effects and clutter.

Clearance Overview

Parking was available so when we turned up at 7am we had no problem parking. We immediately set up a plywood barrier around the front door and in the hallway to protect the entrance from any knocks and scratches, and then we started to clear the property.

As our client had already informed us, there were only a few items of furniture to remove because they had already been cleared earlier on. We started in the kitchen where we removed all of the white goods and any items of crockery that remained in the cupboards. We then moved through the house and cleared everything that we came across.

The most challenging room was the upstairs room that was filled with clutter, but working as a team we were able to remove everything from this room and separate it as we went. It was in this room that we found a book filled with writing, so we set this aside to hand to the client later on. The Gas Safe registered engineer arrived at 3pm to disconnect the gas cooker, and we finished the clearance at 7pm.

Disposal of Contents

Most of the higher-quality furniture and effects had already been removed, so there were not many items that were really suitable for reusing, apart from a small chest of draws and a shelving unit, which we arranged to send to a voluntary organisation working in the area. We handed the notepad to the client when he arrived at the end of the day, and most of the items were sent for recycling to reduce waste.

Client Comments

The client confirmed that he was completely satisfied with the job when he returned at the end of the day, and he was particularly impressed that we managed to find the old notepad, which turned out to be very precious to his father.
