Clearance Requirements
We were called by our client to completely clear out the contents of a large detached property on Larkshall Road in Highams Park, London. The client was the owner and he was planning to sell the property, so he wanted it completely emptied. However, he did not expect to sell it for at least six months, so he asked us to isolate the electrics and cut off the water supply. We
He also asked us to arrange for a Gas Safe engineer to disconnect the cooker, which is a legal requirement. There was also a lot of clutter in the garden so he asked us to clear this as well, but he did not require us to cut back the hedges or any of the trees because he confirmed that he would do this himself later on.
Clearance Overview
This property had a large private driveway so we were able to park our vehicles with ease. The first thing that we did was to protect the door and the hallway with plywood to prevent any damage from occurring as we removed the items. We then set about clearing every room in the house. It was a large job so we worked quickly but carefully to try and complete it within the day.
Although some items had already been removed, there was still a lot of furniture and lots of general household goods. While some of the team cleared the inside of the house, two team members got to work on the garden and removed all of the items that they found there.
We removed everything from the kitchen and later on the Gas Safe engineer arrived to disconnect the cooker. Then we removed the carpets and curtains, and finally we isolated the electrics and the water supply so that it could be left empty for a number of months.
Disposal of Contents
Most of the items from the garden were too rusted or damaged by the weather to be reused, so unfortunately we had to send these to landfill. Fortunately, these were the only things that were discarded as the rest was either reused or recycled. Most of the furniture could be reused, so we donated anything that was in a good condition to a local charity for the elderly, which was very happy to take them off our hands.
