Clearance Requirements
This flat was located on the seventh floor of a large block of flats on Sherfield Road, RM17, near the centre of Grays. There was a parking space outside of the building that we could use, and our client informed the other residents that we would be working during the day. A compulsive hoarder had lived in the property previously, and as such we were warned that there was a considerable amount of contents to remove. However, we have carried out clearances of hoarding properties many times in the past so we arrived fully prepared for the task. We were also asked to follow the clearance with a full deep clean.
Clearance Overview
We arrived at 7am and spent the entire day clearing and cleaning the flat. The flat itself was quite small, but the number of items that had been stored inside for many years made the job a large one. In total we filled over 250 bags of clutter, all of which had to be taken outside by the stairwell or the lift. We also came across numerous plastic bottles, newspapers, magazines and cardboard containers that we separated for recycling. We removed the white goods from the kitchen and also removed the carpets until the flat was completely clear. We then set about cleaning the property throughout, and after we had done this it looked like a completely different flat. In total, the job took us two days to complete.
Disposal of Contents
There were very few items that were suitable for reusing following the clearance, but many things could be recycled to we could minimise wastage. A total of about 70% could be recycled, and the rest was sent to landfill.
