Clearance Overview
This job involved clearing the entire contents of a large family home. There was lots of space around the house so loading the house contents into our vehicles was an easy job. The outside area did not require clearing, but inside the property there was a large basement filled with boxes of books, records and other items, and a large attic also packed with generations of belongings ranging from toys, wallpaper, Christmas decorations, school projects etc.. which all needed removing. We usually value house contents for probate prior to carrying out a property clearance, but in this case a probate valuation was not required.
Clearance Requirements
The only requirement of this house clearance was that we sent as many of the items to local Dorking charities as possible. Anything that we could not send to charities was to be recycled if possible.
Following the clearance, the owner wanted us to secure three of the windows and the two main doors because they were planning on leaving the property empty for a number of months and they were worried about squatters.
Disposal of Contents
Most of the items in the house were good enough to be sent to local Dorking charities. The basement was surprisingly dry so the books and records were in particularly good condition, and the owner had no desire to keep them for himself so we took these to charities who accepted them with open arms. The rest was sorted for recycling and items to be sent to landfill, which was not a large amount.
Following the clearance we immediately secured the windows and doors so that by the time we left the property it had been fully cleared and secured against squatting.
