Clearance Overview
Our client requested that we carry out a complete house clearance of the contents of a large 4 bedroom terraced house in Woodberry Way, Chingford London E4. The previous occupant who had lived there for 60 years, had, in his latter years been unable to maintain the property properly and as a result the very large garden was completely overgrown with parts of the house suffering from problems such as damp, rotten floorboards, etc. He had also accumulated a vast quantity of possessions. We were requested to clear the property, clean it and secure it by changing the locks and draining down the central heating. We usually value house contents for probate prior to carrying out a property clearance, but in this case a probate valuation was not required.
Clearance Requirements
This was a big job, so we allowed two days and used 2 teams. We arrived on site at 7.30 am as soon as it was light and immediately started with one team on the garden and the other team on the house. We cut back overgrown plants and trees become hazardous to the foundations. It was now ready for a new lawn to be seeded in the spring. Overall we removed a ton of organic material and rubbish from the garden. Most of the furniture in the house was in poor condition, and many of the personal effects were affected by damp. We made our way carefully through the property, clearing and cleaning. At the end of the second day we had secured it marked out the hazardous areas changed the locks and drained the central heating finally completing the job.
Disposal of Contents
Most of the contents were not re-usable, and were taken to our recycling centre, where we made every effort to recycle as much as possible, but, unfortunately, we did have to dispose of some of the contents at an authorized waste disposal site.

Additional Information
While we clearing the possessions, we found a set of medals from the Burma Campaign in World War 2, and it seems that the previous occupant had been one of the Chindits, who were the first jungle warfare team to go behind Japanese lines in Malaya, and had a significant effect in preventing the Japanese from invading India.
