Clearance Overview
We were instructed by our client, a foreign embassy, to clear a house in Cheshire Gardens Chessington Surrey. The number of diplomatic staff had been reduced and the embassy needed the property clearing completely, including the garden and the contents of the garage. Confidentiality was of particular importance in this case, and we were requested to use closed vans for the contents, and also to shred all documents. The client also wanted the contents of the garage cleared, which had been used as a store room for embassy personnel, and also the garden furniture and shed cleared. We usually value house contents for probate prior to carrying out a property clearance, but in this case a probate valuation was not required.
Clearance Requirements
We arrived on site at 7.30 a.m. and immediately started work. There was a large amount of modern furniture of good quality, including cupboards, wall units, chests of drawers, and a four poster bed. There was also a full lounge suite and flat screen TV. Although the furniture was modern, we were able to offer to sell the items through our retail division, and as a result were able to offset some of the cost of the clearance.
Disposal of Contents
We were able to re-sell most of the furniture tools and other items and that accounted for 90% of the clearance. The residue was mainly shredded paper and a few items which could not be re-used, which were sent to our recycling centre. In this case nothing went to landfill.

We had to start very early because the traffic in the area is very badly affected at that time of year by the Chessington World of Adventures theme park which is nearby. This is a very successful tourist attraction and the most profitable theme park in the UK.
