Clearance Overview
Our client, who lived in South Africa requested that we completely clear his mother’s 3 bedroom terraced house in Barking. She had lived in the house for 60 years, and in later years was in poor health so the property also required full cleaning and a large amount of accumulated possessions furniture and effects needed to be removed. The client was unable to view the property but asked that items of value be taken to a storage facility. The rest of the goods were to be recycled or disposed of. We were also asked to remove white goods from the kitchen but leave the cooker. We were instructed to clear all rubbish and a shed from the garden. We are often requested to value house contents for probate, before carrying out a house clearance, but a probate valuation was not necessary in this case.
Clearance Requirements
We were required to clear all the contents, apart from the kitchen appliances. Most of the household effects had already been removed, and we were left with the residue, which included some large items of furniture and general household contents. There was plenty of parking space available, but the area was a residents only parking zone. Fortunately, the property owner was able to provide us with temporary permits for the day.
Disposal of Contents
From our point of view this was a fairly easy clearance. The front garden had been converted into a driveway with plenty of parking space so we were able to park our van in front of the property and start loading immediately. We used a closed unmarked van so as to ensure the client’s confidentiality and by the end of the day the property had been cleared and the contents transferred to 3 vans. We then cleaned the property and left it dustfree tidy and ready for sale.
Client Comments
The client stated that he was very pleased with the diligence and care with which we carried out the house clearance and the fact that we found the photo album containing rare photos which would otherwise have been thrown out.
Additional Information
The photograph album revealed that the occupier of the house had been in the Royal Air Force during the war and as there were pictures of her in flying gear she may have been one of the ferry pilots who transported aircraft from the factories to air bases throughout England. These women were very skilled pilots as they had to fly many different types of aircraft but were always at risk of enemy fighter attack, as the aircraft were unarmed.
