House Clearance in Anerley: Case Study 1

As many of our clients have never used a house clearance company before, we found that it was helpful to outline previous work we have conducted in the Anerley area. Clearance Overview

We were requested by a local Anerley, SE20 estate agent to clear a property prior to it being let for their client, who lived abroad. The client decided to completely renovate the house, providing new furniture, carpets and white goods for the new tenants, who were due to take possession of the property a few weeks after the clearance. We were instructed to leave only the cooker, but to remove the washing machine, and ensure that the plumbing was left in a secure state, which we were able to do for no extra charge.

Clearance Requirements

This was a fairly straightforward clearance. There were no parking restrictions in Avenue Rd, Anerley, SE20 and the road itself was wide enough to enable us to park without difficulty. The client, however, needed time to be able to arrange for the property to be redecorated and for new carpets and furniture to be installed, so we were requested to carry out the clearance as quickly as possible. We were able to start work only two days after the initial instruction, and, by using a double crew we completed the job in less than a day. We are often requested to value house contents for probate, before carrying out a house clearance, but a probate valuation was not necessary in this case.

Disposal of Contents

The mostly modern furniture was disposed of using the assistance of several local charities and a woman’s shelter. Everything was in fair condition, and, while of no commercial value, was still usable, and, in line with our policy of re-use whenever practicable, we were able to give away almost everything to worthy causes. Paper, cans and other recyclables were taken to our recycling centre. The women’s shelter residents were particularly delighted with two large cupboards, which provided much needed extra storage, and a working washing machine.

We did not meet the client, as he lived abroad, but the estate agents were very pleased with the quality of our work, and have since become regular clients of ours. We have now cleared a total of 3 addresses for them.

Additional Information

At the back of one of the chest of drawers we found a passport belonging to one of the former tenants, which we arranged to return to him. He hadn’t even noticed it was missing, but was very happy to get it back as he was planning to go abroad on holiday.
