Clearance Requirements
We were called to clear this large semi-detached house by a firm of estate agents. They were in charge of selling the property, and because there was still a lot of furniture inside they decided to call in the professionals. They informed us that most of the furniture and effects were in a good condition, and they suggested that we could try and sell them and use the proceeds to reduce the cost of the clearance. They also asked us to isolate the electrics and drain down the central heating system.
Clearance Overview
We parked our vans in the driveway at just after 7.30am and met one of the estate agents. After he had handed us the key to the property we began work immediately. It was clear that there was a lot of furniture of a very high quality, and we separated a selection of paintings and a large oak table complete with chairs in order to try and sell these later. Many of the cupboards throughout the property, both upstairs and downstairs, still had items within them including books, files, clothes and general household effects. We boxed these up as we emptied the cupboards, and carried out the large items of furniture including desks, tables, wardrobes and shelving units. We finished clearing the property at about 4.00pm, and we then isolated the electrics and drained the central heating as required before handing the keys back to the client.
Disposal of Contents
We managed to sell a few items from this clearance, including three of the paintings and a large table in excellent condition. This is always helpful for the client because it means that they can save some money. Some of the furniture was suitable for reusing, so rather than throw this away we searched for some local charities to whom we could donate the items, and in the end we split the items between two charity shops. We always aim to reduce our environmental impact, so for that reason we recycled nearly everything that was not reusable.
