Clearance Overview
We were instructed by our client, the executors of the flat’s owner’s estate, to clear out the flat’s household contents, personal effects, and residual content to make it available for sale. We often find that we are requested to carry out house clearance after we value the contents for probate, but in this case, property clearance was the only requirement.
Clearance Requirements
We were requested to clear the flat of all furnishings and personal belongings, leaving the white goods and kitchen fittings, and to clean the bathroom and kitchen and leave it clean and tidy for sale. Viewings were booked in for the day after we cleared the property.
Disposal of Contents
Apart from the usual household goods, there were many items of antique furniture, and we arranged for these to be considered and used to offset the cost of the house clearance. The rest of the goods were to be taken to a storage facility in Garratt Lane, Wandsworth, where they would be divided amongst the relatives later.

Du Cane Court, Balham, is one of the largest blocks of flats in Europe and a south London icon. Built in the 1930s, it was one of the most fashionable addresses in London and boasted a cordon bleu restaurant for residents. It is reported that Luftwaffe pilots used it to check their positions while flying over London. Notable residents include Christine Keeler of the Profumo Affair. The building is so large that the concierge provided us with a plan to enable us to find the flat!
