House clearance on the 7th August 2012 in Crondall Lane, Farnham, Surrey, GU9 of a 2 bedroom flat affected by hoarding
This small flat had been inhabited by a compulsive hoarder for a number of years, and as a result it was in a very bad condition. First we had to make sure that the property was safe to enter and did not have any structural issues but it turned out to be fine. After the clearance we asked whether the new owner wanted it to be cleaned but he just wanted it cleared.
Clearance Overview
Because of the quantity of items that needed to be cleared from the property we needed more vehicles than we normally use for a property of this size. Luckily there were no access issues because there was ample parking space outside the building. This was a two day job so we started clearing the property first thing in the morning on the first day and by 6pm the following day we had completely cleared the contents. We had to be very careful throughout the job because when there are so many items they can often conceal dangerous objects, and there was also the risk of falling objects to consider.
Disposal of Contents
Many of the items had to be sent to waste unfortunately because they were in such bad condition. However, there were many newspapers, magazines and old books which could be recycled so we sent them to our recycling centre.
