What Happens To Items From A House Clearance?

November 11, 2011 By Avery Associates

As London house clearance specialists we pride ourselves on being a responsible company dealing with all types of house clearance. Customers often ask us what we do with the contents of the properties that we clear, and it is a very important issue that we take seriously. Mostly, people are worried that the contents will get sent to landfill. However, for us it is very important to deal with the contents in the most effective ways possible.

Reusing Items

Reusing any contents that we find in a property is the best thing that can be done with it. For that reason, we make sure that we reuse any items which we find in a house clearance.

This is the best option because there are no fees involved, no new products have to be made, and as a result it is better for the environment. On top of that, because we team up with local charities you can be sure that other people in need can make use of the contents of the property and give them a new lease of life.

Recycling Items

Where items cannot be directly reused then we will always try to recycle them. If they are made from plastic, cardboard, glass or metal then there is a good chance that we will be able to recycle them. This prevents them from going to landfill and reduces the amount of resources required to make new products, all of which helps the environment.

Sending Items to Auction

People often have valuable objects in their homes. Sometimes they don’t even know what treasures are there in the first place. Obviously we don’t just dump these, and where we can we will allow you to use them to offset the cost of your house clearance. For that reason we have partnered with a number of auction houses to sell the items quickly to the highest bidders to make sure that the value is not wasted.

Landfill

Although we try not to send anything to landfill as far as possible, some items will inevitably end up here. However, this is only when there are no other options available. The amount of items we usually end up sending to landfill is consistently under 15% of all the contents that we collect during house clearances.

Disposing of Contents is Something We Take Seriously

We take our responsibilities very seriously when it comes to a house clearance. customers who are in need of a house clearance can rest assured that all their items will be dealt with in the best possible manner to prevent them from being wasted.

Our House Clearance Services

We provide a full house clearance and property management solution:

  • We clear hoarded houses, regardless how big or how cluttered
  • We clear all types and sizes of property, irrespective of location, or access is restricted or where parking is difficult or not available.
  • We can help avoid water damage by draining the central heating system.
  • We can secure the property and change the locks.
  • We can reinstate the gardens and maintain them whilst the property is empty.
  • We can provide 24 hour security to eliminate the risk of squatting or unlawful occupation.

As well normal house clearances we specialise in clutter clearance and we can clear a hoarded house which may contain years of accumulated possessions, or which have abnormal amounts of general household items, sometimes as a result of compulsive hoarding syndrome.

Equally we can help to clear a property where the occupants were previously unwell and unable to care for themselves or their property which sometimes results in insanitary, dangerous or just plain unpleasant conditions.
