It was during a recent probate valuation in Sunningdale, Berkshire one of our probate valuers found an antique 19th century English Skeleton Clock.

Avery Associates are regularly instructed to carry out probate valuation in Berkshire and it was while preparing the probate valuation of chattels at the Datchet property that the important 19th century skeleton fusee clock came to light. Sitting proudly over the fireplace and under a clear glass dome, the wonderful timepiece had been sitting for over 50 years. Skeleton clocks have been popular for over two centuries having been made in locations all over E and other parts of the world.

Although this report was carried out in Sunningdale we have we have also carried out probate valuation in Old Wndsor, Shottesbrooke, Ascot, Waltham St. Lawrence, White Waltham and Wraysbury, but it was during the probate valuation of house contents in Sunningdale, Berks that the splendid skeleton clock was found. The executors were aware of it’s presence and that it had value but quite shocked when it was valued at £500 for the purposes of probate.

Further to this there were a number of oil paintings that exceeded £500, a diamond solitaire engagement ring, a good amount of silver and ceramics so in all it was a fairly high valuation amounting to a total of £5300.00. The general part of the value was made up with normal household household furniture and effects at a value of £750. With the estate being subject to inheritance tax the sum payable for iht was £2120 added to the property valuation and other assets. Chattels valuations vary dramatically and it is quite normal for us to find items of high value so it is wise to use experienced valuers.
