Clearance Overview
We were instructed by our client, the owner of the flat, and landlord, to completely clear a two bedroom flat on the third floor of a block of flats in Idonia Street Deptford London. The previous occupants had left the country suddenly, leaving many possessions, furniture and household effects, which needed to be cleared so the property could be re-let. He asked us to clean the property as well thoroughly. We were asked to make sure items of value were given to the landlord so they could be returned to the owner. We usually value house contents for probate before carrying out a property clearance, but in this case a probate valuation was not required.
Clearance Requirements
Deptford is an inner city area, and parking and traffic can be a problem, although there is unrestricted parking in Idonia Street. As a result, we started early, at 6.30 a.m. The flats had no lift, so we arranged for a larger crew than usual, as the carrying of goods down stairs is more labour intensive an time consuming. We cleared clothing, newspapers, televisions, beds, food from the kitchen, chests of drawers and cupboards. After the clearance we cleaned the kitchen and bathroom thoroughly, and hoovered the carpets, leaving the property spotlessly clean and ready for viewings by prospective tenants.
Disposal of Contents
Much of the furniture was in very good condition, and we could give this to local charity shops to re-sell. Items of value, such as a large flat screen TV were retained by the landlord. The other household effects were also given to charity shops, which left only a very small amount to be sent to our recycling centre
