Jeffrey Avery Pilots New Anti Fly Tipping Campaign
Following an unpleasant incident in 2017 Avery Associates have started an anti fly tipping campaign, and aiming to inform members of the public what dangers and warning signs to look out for. Even in my local area there have been an increase in Irish travellers knocking doors and offering bargain prices for taking waste. This waste then ends up fly tipped on land where they are squatting and Mitcham my local area, illegally dumping causing great anxiety and cost for commercial landlords when having to remove the fly tipped material. For example if the fly tipper has charged a householder £300 for taking away their waste the money all goes into their pocket as they are not paying to dispose of the waste material at a registered waste transfer station or land fill site. Not only a complete illegal rip off and blatant tax avoidance.
Always Check For A legitimate Waste Carriers Licence
By checking someone’s waste carriers licence and this should be verified by visiting the DOE website at this link, you will not only safeguard landowners, the environment and the health of passers by and children, but yourself as if you are found not to have checked and subsequently your waste is traced back to you after having been fly tipped you might face a hefty fine and criminal prosecution.
Mountains Of Fly Tipped Waste
I recently visited a local industrial estate where there was an absolute mountain of waste as a result of fly tipping estimated to exceed 500 Ton and a cost to the landlord of over £70,000 and has been happening on the same land repeatedly for the last 6 months on a monthly basis. The offenders squat the land fly tip every day until the legal system can be applied but by then its far too late and the damage has been done. Always be aware and take precautions by thoroughly checking the persons waste carriers licence.
