Importanct Security Measures Following A House Clearance

June 18, 2011 By Avery Associates

As a London house clearance firm, we take clearances very seriously indeed. And part of that involves making sure that, following a clearance, the property is fully secured so that it is completely safe even though it may be unoccupied for a long period of time.

If a property is not going to be lived in, securing the premises is essential. A vacant property is far more likely to become victim to break-ins, vandalism and illegal occupation than a property which is occupied. On top of that, there are a whole host of other problems which can occur and can go unnoticed due to no one being in the property, including burst pipes and problems with the electrics and gas.

To prevent this, we offer a number of essential services to secure a property following a clearance.

Lock Changing

The first thing we do is change the locks on the property, both on the doors and the windows. Keeping people out of the property is one of the simplest and most effective measures you can take to secure a property. You don’t know who has access to the property, so get new locks installed on doors and windows to be safe.

Central Heating System

After we’ve carried out a house clearance, we can also drain down the central heating system to prevent a range of problems including burst pipes. Burst pipes can lead to far more serious problems and costly damage to a property if they are not dealt with, and if no one is there to spot the problems then this can be a very serious issue. We also work with CORGI gas engineers and electricians to isolate the supplies to prevent any other problems from occurring.

Garden Maintenance

One of the simplest ways to prevent your unoccupied property from facing problems following a house clearance is to make it look lived in. An unattended garden attracts attention from illegal dumpers, and it may even be a more tempting proposition to thieves who consider it an easier property to break into because they can see that no one is living there.

Regular maintenance of the garden is a simple but highly effective way to show that the property is still being cared for and it has not been forgotten about, making it less likely that people will try to use it for illegal dumping or to get access to it.

Securing Your Property Professionally

When we carry out a house clearance, we always ask if you need any of these security measures to be taken. If the property is going to be left unoccupied then we would highly recommend taking these measures to protect the property.
