How To Reduce the Risk from Pests in Your Property

November 11, 2011 By Avery Associates

One of the problems we often face as a London house clearance company that affects residents across the country is the presence of rats and other pests. Pests can cause damage to a building, as well as disease and bad smells, and generally they are very unpleasant to deal with.

To help you to deal with pests before they become a problem, here are some simple guidelines.

Importance of Cleaning

To avoid problems with pests in the first place, keeping the area clean and tidy on a regular basis is very important. This means clearing up crumbs, taking the bins out regularly, keeping bins shut and generally clearing up any material which could be used for building a nest. By keeping the property clean and tidy you will be doing a lot to prevent pests from becoming a problem.

React Quickly

If you find that you have a problem with pests due to seeing the tell-tale signs of damage or droppings, it’s important that you act with haste to stop the problem getting out of hand.

Mouse traps and poison are two of the best ways to get rid of rats and other pests. However, with these you have to be aware that you may find lots of dead pests around the home to clear up.

Other traps are more humane in that they allow you to catch the pests alive and release them somewhere far away from the property. You can also get hold of electronic repellers which repel the pests from entering your home in the first place.

Whichever technique you end up using, just make sure that you do something. You could even hire a pest controller, but if the problem is caught early enough then you may be able to deal with it on your own.

Get Yourself a Pet

A pet like a dog or cat is an excellent deterrent. If you get yourself a pet then you will find that pests are less likely to take a chance on your property and will be more likely to go somewhere else instead.

Keep Your House Pest Free

Pests can be a real nightmare in the home, so make sure you do all you can to prevent them from infesting your home, and deal with them quickly when they do become a problem.

As a house clearance firm we have dealt with many homes where pests have been a problem and we have seen first hand how serious the consequences can be. So don’t let pests make a home for themselves in your home and take precautions.

  • We clear hoarded houses, regardless how big or how cluttered
  • We clear all types and sizes of property, irrespective of location, or access is restricted or where parking is difficult or not available.

As well normal house clearances we specialise in clutter clearance and we can clear a hoarded house which may contain years of accumulated possessions, or which have abnormal amounts of general household items, sometimes as a result of compulsive hoarding syndrome.

Equally we can help to clear a property where the occupants were previously unwell and unable to care for themselves or their property which sometimes results in insanitary, dangerous or just plain unpleasant conditions.
