Clearance Overview
The house had a driveway so we were able to park our vans very close to the front door, and this made removing the contents easier. After meeting the client and carrying out a quick appraisal of the property, we placed plywood around the front door to protect it from any knocks and then began to clear the contents. We cleared out the sofa and chairs from the living room, along with the bookshelves, cupboards, cabinets and ornaments. In the kitchen we removed the fridge, washing machine and freezer, none of which looked to be working any more, and removed any broken cabinets and draws. We finished clearing the upstairs towards the end of the afternoon, and as one team worked upstairs the other team worked on the garden. They tidied the area up, collecting any tools and plastic litter they found, and they also mowed the lawn to leave it in a good condition. We finished the job by cleaning the house throughout, and the client then returned to check over the property before saying that he was very happy with the job.
Disposal of Contents
We sent a number of items of furniture to a local charity shop, which was happy to take everything off our hands and this made reducing wastage a lot easier. We also recycled some of the contents that could not be reused, but only a tiny proportion of the total contents was sent to landfill.
