Clearance Requirements
This large semi-detached house on Holmesdale Road, South Norwood, SE25, had been inherited by our client a few months previously, but he had been unable to do anything with it because it was still filled with the possessions of the previous occupant. As the previous owner had been ill, the property was slightly neglected and as a result our client asked us to clean it throughout following the clearance.
Clearance Overview
We had no problem parking our vehicles outside the house because it had its own driveway, so that made removing the contents more convenient. After performing a quick appraisal of the property, we estimated that we would be able to finish the job by 6.00pm, and then we got started. Most of the rooms had lots of furniture and effects within them, and we made our way through the property removing everything as a team. Some of the items of furniture were too large to remove as they were, including a large table in the living room, so we had to dismantle them carefully. We then put them back together again before loading them into the van. The most interesting thing that we came across was a tin filled with old black and white photos that looked like they dated back to the 1940s or 1950s, which we found in one of the bedrooms. We separated this to hand over to the client in case it was something important to him. After removing all of the contents, we cleaned the house throughout. We always use specialised cleaning equipment to ensure a high level of cleanliness, and this meant that the client could place the house on the market if he so wished.
Disposal of Contents
We managed to donate a large proportion of the contents for this clearance, which is great because we are always keen to reduce our environmental impact. A local charity took most of the things off our hands, so it was good to be able to help them to raise some money as well. We handed the tin of photos over to the client at the end of the clearance, and although he did not recognise the people in the photos he was very grateful to us for handing them to him and he intended to research them further.
