CLEARANCE DATE: 6th June 2012
PROPERTY LOCATION: Crowthorne Road, Sandhurst, Berkshire, GU46
CLEARANCE TYPE: Full flat clearance and general clean
PROPERTY TYPE: 2-bedroom flat
Clearance Overview
This flat was located inside a large building on Crowthorne Road, Sandhurst, GU46 which contained 5 flats in total. There was an area to park outside the building, and the owner informed the residents in advance that we would be working during the day. The previous owner had been a hoarder, and this made the clearance particularly challenging. However, we have cleared many properties affected by compulsive hoarding in the past so this was not a problem. But safety has to be taken very seriously with such properties because they are often left in a very bad condition and can hide dangerous items within the mass of contents. Because of the bad condition of the property, we were asked to carry out a deep clean following the clearance.
Clearance Requirements
The team got to work at 7.30 a.m. and worked for the whole day. Despite the smallish size of the flat, this was a huge job due to the sheer number of items it contained. We filled over 200 bags of general clutter and carried them down to the vans parked outside. Although nearly everything was junk, much of it could be recycled. This included masses of paper waste, so this was sent for recycling. There were also many glass jars, plastic bottles and cardboard boxes as well, all of which could be recycled. We worked consistently throughout the day, and gradually we cleared the living room, kitchen and bedrooms. The space that revealed itself was incredible to see. It had been completely hidden behind the collection for so long that the client was amazed when he saw how the job was progressing. We had to remove the white goods from the kitchen, and these were in a very bad condition and not suitable for reusing. We then cleaned the property following the clearance. The carpets had to come up because they were badly soiled and were only fit for waste. The property looked and smelled fantastic afterwards, and it was literally a new flat. This job took 2 days in all.
Disposal of Contents
A great deal of the waste had to be sent for recycling and to landfill because there was really nothing suitable for reusing. We found a few photo albums but the owner did not want these. In all, about 60% of all of the items could be recycled.
Client Comments
The client was hugely relieved to finally clear the property. He was planning to sell it, and we left it in a good condition to be redecorated. His next job was to fit new carpets and curtains and refit the kitchen.
