CLEARANCE DATE: 8th September 2012
PROPERTY LOCATION: Barking Road, Plaistow, London, E13
CLEARANCE TYPE: Full house clearance
PROPERTY TYPE: 4-Bedroom-House
Our client contacted us to arrange the clearance of this large four-bedroom terraced house on Barking Road in Plaistow, London, E13. His parents were the owners, but they had moved abroad and taken what they wanted to keep from the house, so he was in charge of clearing out the other contents.
The street was busy during the week, so he asked us to arrange the clearance on a Saturday, which we were happy to do.
Parking was available behind the house so we had no difficulties loading the contents into our vans. The clearance was fairly straightforward because many of the belongings had already been removed. However, there were still some large items of furniture, including a king-sized bed, a huge dining table and a piano that we had to remove.
Some of the effects were still in a very good condition, and we asked the client if he would like us to sell some of these to offset the cost of the clearance, which he agreed to. We separated the piano and a set of six chairs to sell at a later date.
The client popped into the property a few times to check on our progress, and he asked us during the day if we would be able to isolate the water supply while we were there. We said that we would be happy to do this, and it is always a good idea to do so if the property is not going to be used for a long period of time.
Disposal of Contents
In this case, some of the furniture and goods were in good condition, and we were able to offset their value against the cost of the clearance. Only a very small proportion of the contents were re-cycled.
Our dedicated gardening team took care of the garden and disposed of the waste and much of it was placed in compost bins, although some of it was taken to the local council’s recycling centre and placed with the green waste material
The client in this case was a firm of local solicitors, who were acting as executors, winding up the estate on behalf of the beneficiary, the son of the house owner. One of the partners inspected the property and was particularly impressed with the “excellent job” we had done with the garden.
