Clearance Requirements
Our client for this property clearance was an estate agent, which was working on behalf of the owner. The owner had previously let out the property to tenants over the last decade, but the last tenants who used to live there had left it in a condition that made it very difficult to find new tenants, with broken furniture and numerous personal effects still inside the property. We were therefore asked to clear the property and clean it at the same time so that the estate agents could find new tenants for it.
Clearance Overview
When we arrived we met the estate agent at the property. There was a large driveway and lots of space in which to operate. He handed us the keys and we started the clearance immediately.
There were a number of broken items of furniture, including a chest of draws, a coffee table with broken glass, one of the beds and the table. There was also broken glass on the floor so we had to be very careful to avoid injury during the clearance. Some of the carpet had been ripped up so we needed to remove this as well as the underlay.
In the kitchen we found that the fridge and freezer had both been damaged, but the cooker, microwave and washing machine were still usable. We removed everything and emptied the cupboards. There were still some remains of food in the cabinets so we had to be careful because this posed a health hazard.
After clearing the entire property, we gave it a deep clean throughout to ensure that it was in a condition whereby it could be let out to new clients. We finished the work just before 8pm and the estate agent returned to collect the keys.
Disposal of Contents
Some of the items that we cleared were not in a good enough condition to be reused, so in these cases we had to send these to our recycling centre to reduce the amount of items that were sent to landfill. However, we were able to reuse many of the items, including some of the furniture and the collection of books and DVDs. We donated these to a charity in the area so that they could sell them and raise funds.
