Clearance Requirements
Our client contacted us because he needed to clear his four-bedroom house on Pembridge Crescent in Notting Hill, London. It had belonged to his sister, who had passed away a few weeks earlier, and she had left the property to him in her will. However, she had been ill for many years before her death and as such the property was not in a suitable condition to be placed on the market. He required us to clear the entire property of all of the remaining furniture and effects, and then to give it a deep clean before he could sell it.
Clearance Overview
The property was located on a very busy street in Notting Hill, so we agreed to carry out the clearance on a Saturday when the street was quieter.
We arrived at 7.30am and met the client outside the property. We performed a quick appraisal and then began work immediately. It was clear that the property had not been well cared for over the past few years, and there were many items on the floor of the living room and kitchen. It was also clear that it needed a good clean if the owner wanted to sell it. However, no job is too large for us and we did not hesitate to get started on removing the furniture and effects.
The living room contained a large sofa and two chairs, an old TV set, a chest of draws, a large shelving unit complete with books and various ornaments, and lots of paintings and posters on the wall. We cleared everything until it was completely empty, and then moved onto the kitchen. Here we removed all of the white goods and cleared out all of the cabinets. We also arranged for a Gas Safe engineer to visit to disconnect the cooker.
We then moved upstairs and cleared out all of the bedrooms. There was a very large wardrobe, which took four of the team to remove safely. It was in excellent condition and we decided that it would be worth selling, so we asked the client at the end of the job and he agreed that we could sell it.
Once everything had been cleared, we cleaned the property from top to bottom using our specialist cleaning equipment to leave it in excellent condition.
Disposal of Contents
Along with the wardrobe, we also agreed to sell three of the paintings from the living room, and with the money that we made from the sales we were able to use these to offset the cost of the clearance for the client. Everything else was reused if possible through donations to various charities in the area, and anything that was not fit to be reused was recycled.
Client Comments
Our client was very pleased that we were able to reduce the cost of the clearance by selling some of the items that we found. He was also very happy with the overall quality of the clearance.
