We were requested to completely clear a 3 bedroom property in Dunstan Rd Golders Green London NW2. The property was owned by a foreign businessman, and he had decided to sell it, but did not wish to come to the UK to organize this. He requested a local estate agent arrange the sale, and they recommended us to the client because of previous work we have done for them. The client asked us to separate out listed items, and take them to a storage facility, and then to clear the rest of the property. He also asked us to prepare the property in case it was empty for a long time, by draining the central heating and isolating the water, gas and electric services. In order to retain a lived in look he asked us to tidy the garden and leave the curtains in place. We were also asked to cut the garden back and remove any rubbish, and to do so regularly until the property was sold.
Clearance Overview
We were aware of the difficulties of parking in Golders Green: Resident’s only permits and ferocious enforcement, so it was decided to carry out the clearance on a Sunday. We arrived at 6 a.m and immediately started work. We mowed the lawn, cut the hedges and cut back weeds from the path, and place the cuttings in our van, so that they could be taken to a local authority composting scheme. We then started to remove the furniture and effects from the house, and, as requested, placed the contents in closed, unmarked vans so as to protect the privacy of our client. By 4 p.m. we were finished, and, after draining the central heating and isolating the utilities, we handed the keys to the estate agent.
Disposal of Contents
The furniture was of very good quality and in excellent condition, and we were able to sell much of it through our retail arm and offset the proceeds against the cost of the clearance. The garden waste was composted, and a residue of papers, bottles, etc, were all recycled through our recycling centre. Only a very small amount of the materials from this clearance went to landfill, thereby helping us to fulfil our environmental targets.
