Clearance Overview
We were asked to clear a commercial property and flat above which had been purchased by the owner who wanted to open a store in Caterham. The shop and flat was on a busy street so we knew that access was going to be an issue, and for that reason we arrived very early in the morning, knowing that the job was going to take all day.
Clearance Requirements
The owner of the shop and flat above needed the whole property cleared before he could renovate and decorate it, and he was keen to get it opened in the next month and let the flat upstairs, so speed was of the essence. He did not have any preference for where the contents were sent as long as they went to a good home and not to landfill. We often find that we are requested to carry out house clearance after we value house contents for probate, but in this case a property clearance was the only requirement.
Disposal of Contents
We separated the contents into items re-use, items to recycle and items to send to a charity in Caterham. The rest consisted of waste products which had to be sent to landfill, but luckily this was not much of the total.
There were not many items to clear so the job took all day. However, there were a number of heavy shelving units and these proved difficult to move. This could have been dangerous if the owner had attempted the clearance on his own.
