Clearance Overview
We were instructed to completely clear a ground floor maisonette in Queens Ride Barnes. Most of the smaller possessions had been removed leaving large cupboards and other furniture. There was also a Renault Clio car parked in the front a “non runner” with no mot which we were requested to dispose of. The client also asked us to clean the carpets and if this was not possible to strip them out and lay new replacements. The house was to be let once cleared. He also instructed us to remove the fitted kitchen which was in a bad state leaving it clear for a carpenter to fit new units the following week. We are often requested to value house contents for probate, before carrying out a house clearance, but a probate valuation was not necessary in this case.
Clearance Requirements
Queens Ride is a major road, and parking is impossible, but fortunately there was off street parking available next door and the neighbor permitted us to park while he was at work so that we could carry out the house clearance. We removed the kitchen units as requested and the large cupboards chests of drawers and beds. One of the units was so large we could not get it through the door and had to disassemble it before putting it on our van.
Disposal of Contents
Most of the furniture was in good condition but modern and of little commercial value but we arranged with local Barnes charity shops and other organizations for the majority of it to be re-sold and we understand that a reasonable sum was obtained for the charity concerned.
Client Comments
The client from Barnes was very pleased with the work and was delighted that much of the contents went to the local charities and not into landfill. We disposed of only a very small amount of furniture and effects that could not be recycled or re-used. In this as in every house clearance we make great efforts not to allow goods to go to landfill whenever we can, which is why the client chose us to carry out the clearance. Additional Information
The property was situated in the same road where Marc Bolan was killed in a car crash in 1977 and we saw the bronze bust of the singer which was installed in 2002. While working in the road we saw a few fans coming to pay tribute to the singer and guitarist who with his band T Rex was a rock ‘n roll legend. Mac Bolan sadly died in the prime of life and at the height of his career.
