Clearance Requirements
This flat was located in a period property on South Lambeth Road in Vauxhall, London, SW8. The owner had decided to leave it empty for a few months before she decided what to do with it, and she wanted it completely cleared first. She also asked us to isolate the electricity supply and to cut of the water supply so that it was safer to leave the property unoccupied.
Clearance Overview
There was no parking available on the street, and we could only find space for our vans around the back of the building, but this was not a problem and just meant that we had to carry the goods slightly further to load into the van. There were some large items of furniture inside the flat, including a double bed and a huge chest of draws. We had to dismantle the bed carefully and then reassemble it outside before loading it into the van, and three of the team had to work together to get the chest of draws down the stairs safely. We worked quickly but carefully, and soon we had cleared out the living room and one bedroom. After lunch we cleared out the kitchen, boxing up the plates, bowls, cups and glasses that remained in the cabinets, and carrying out the large white goods to load into the van. When we had finished the clearance we isolated the electricity supply and cut off the water supply as requested.

Although we had to recycle some of the things that we found because they were not reusable, we were still able to reuse some of the furniture and effects. The sofa was donated to a home for the elderly and the old TV was sent to a local youth centre, and we managed to donate some things to be sold at a jumble sale being organised by a local charity. This is always our aim so that we can reduce the amount of waste that is caused by each house clearance.
