Clearance Requirements
We were instructed to clear a 5 bedroomed 1930’s semi detached property in a suburban area of north Acton. Because the property had been empty for over 6 months, the garden was overgrown, and needed restoring to its original state. The property was to be let once the clearance had been completed, and so we were instructed to fully clean the property and make it ready for viewing by estate agents.
Clearance Overview
The house was situated in a very pleasant area of Mottingham. It had a huge driveway so we were able to park our vans without experiencing any difficulties. From the outside it was hard to see any signs that suggested the property had been occupied by a compulsive hoarder, but on the inside it was a different story.
Towers of books, papers, magazines and general clutter rose up to the ceilings, and almost every conceivable space was taken up with some kind of item. We have cleared many properties affected by hoarding in the past, so we were not daunted by the size of the job.
We set to work clearing the property, starting with the hallway and moving through the living room and kitchen. There was such a significant amount of contents that it took the whole day just to clear the ground floor, and we returned the day after to clear the upstairs.
We worked quickly and efficiently, and finally we managed to clear the last items on the afternoon of the second day. We then cleaned the house throughout using specialist equipment to leave it looking fantastic once again.
Disposal of Contents
Nearly all of the contents that we removed had to either be recycled or sent to landfill because most of it was in no fit state to be reused. There were a few items of furniture that were salvageable, and we sent these to a local charity. Fortunately, most of the items were fit for recycling so not too much waste was generated
