Upon arrival at the location which will remain anonymous for reasons of security i noticed a bad smell and soon realised that it was coming from the hoarded house we were to clear. I was soon told by the solicitor showing the hoarded property that there was a dead cat present and a considerable amount of rotting food scattered all over the floor. But to my surprise i was informed that there was likely to be a considerable amount of cash hidden within the premises that we were expected to find for the family.

We were back the next morning to start the hoarded house clearance and with an assistant i carefully sifted through paperwork and clutter in the sitting room and at the same time removing all waste to form a holding area and a clear space to store items of value. By 2 pm i made access to and entered the loft area which had been described as a like place for valuables to be hidden. It was only about fifteen minutes before i found a strong box containing a large amount of cash along with a wooden box full of jewelry.

I notified our client quickly and received a hearty thank you for the find followed by a personal phone call from the family who were extremely grateful. I was also very happy to have recovered the valuables for the family and was able to continue to clear the property of all the remaining furniture and effects which took another day and a half.
