A charity has just launched a scheme to provide help and support to those who suffer from compulsive hoarding. Hampshire hoarders will benefit from this scheme which is being run by Sanctuary Housing Group.
As a Hampshire house clearance company we are pleased to see that the aim of the new scheme is to provide support to those tenants who have a problem with hoarding and are accumulating too many items as a result of their condition.
Sanctuary Housing Group is joining forces with another charity, Clouds End, which works with people who are affected by hoarding in Hampshire and other areas. Clouds End is going to provide training to officers from Sanctuary Housing so that they will have a much better idea of how they can help hoarders.
Hoarding affects thousands of people across the UK, and it can lead to serious issues for the victims and for their neighbours. Living space becomes unlivable as areas become too crowded with items, and hygiene can become a serious issue.
The director for housing and communities at Sanctuary Group, Simon Clark, said that the group is ‘committed to helping residents improve the quality of their lives’, but that it also makes good financial sense because the damage caused by hoarding can sometimes cost thousands of pounds.
The founder of Clouds End, Heather Matuozzo, said that hoarding ‘can be a sign of deep-rooted emotional and psychological difficulties’ and it is a serious issue where the individuals need to get access to good support.
This is great news not just for hoarders but for people who have been affected by their hoarding behaviours, such as family members, friends and neighbours. By helping hoarder’s and giving them back control over their collecting habits, schemes like this can make a real difference to many people’s lives.
